PRODUCT CONCEPT
The Start
Whether you are a start-up brand that is new to the cosmetics industry or an established brand, we approach every project in the same way.
All our clients and potential new clients must complete our NPD brief form. This provides detailed information about your target market/user, claims, budget, packaging information and product requirements/claims, which enables your Cosmetic Scientist to start researching ingredients for your product concept.
Once we have received your product brief, we will arrange a consultation video call with a Cosmetic Scientist as well as a Customer Service team member. This allows us to understand you as an individual, your brand identity, vision and philosophy as well as discussing the brief in more detail to understand your concept.
Your Cosmetic Scientist will continue researching ingredients and actives while considering MOQ’s, pricing, project feasibility and scale-up. This will be presented, discussed and refined before creating a prototype sample of your product.
PRODUCT CREATION
Let’s Develop
The initial cosmetic development process is now underway and your Cosmetic Scientist will start creating your bespoke formulation.
Your bespoke formulation is created by producing prototype formulae aiming to achieve the desired texture, appearance, skin feel and performance of your product while also liaising with our Scale-up Expert to ensure manufacturing of the product is considered as well as communicating with the purchasing team, to ensure your budget is achievable.
Your Cosmetic Scientist will present initial samples along with sample submission sheets to you for evaluation purposes, so that the product can be assessed adequately, with any revisions made accordingly. This process is repeated until you approve the sample and cost of your bespoke cosmetic product.
We invite you to visit our I&C Laboratories so we can work together, hands-on, to finalise your product formulation.
PRODUCT TESTING
Testing time
Every approved Cosmetic product that is to be placed on the market, must have undergone extensive testing to ensure compliance.
The I&C team will robustly stability test the product in glass jars at varying temperatures, monitoring, measuring and photographically documenting the samples at each stage, going over and above industry standards. The cosmetic product is also sent to an independent UKAS accredited laboratory for Microbiological Challenge testing. Once we receive a passed Challenge test result, we will start compatibility testing of the product in your chosen packaging, at varying temperatures, monitoring and photographically documenting the samples at each stage, going over and above industry standards, to determine the shelf life and PAO of your finished product. Upon successful completion of required tests, we will request a Cosmetic Product Safety Report and INCI from our independent external regulatory partner, for your product. This will ensure your formula is safe and fully compliant to Cosmetic Regulations.
During the development process, the I&C team, will work with you to validate any claims or help with further regulatory requirements by contacting our approved partners and independent regulatory advisors as well as providing any internal documentation required for claim substantiation purposes.
